GÜLSÜN KARAMUSTAFA
2025
Gülsün Karamustafa (b. 1946, Ankara) is one of Türkiye’s most influential contemporary artists. Across a practice spanning more than five decades, she has explored themes of identity, gender, migration, and memory through a wide range of mediums, establishing herself as one of the defining figures of contemporary art in Türkiye and beyond.
Karamustafa has participated in numerous international biennials, including the Venice Biennale, as well as biennials in São Paulo and Gwangju. She has presented solo exhibitions at leading institutions such as Hamburger Bahnhof, Van Abbemuseum, SALT, EMST, and Kunstmuseum Bonn. Her works are included in major public collections, including Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, the Guggenheim Museum, and İstanbul Modern.
Nostos’ journey of creating artist-designed olive oil bottles was shaped by the refined vision of architect Şevki Pekin, whose work was defined by simplicity, originality, and a thoughtful approach to design. Together with Santimetre Studio and Tulya Madra, who share this vision, we began a project that invites a different artist each year to create a new limited-edition design.
For the 2025 edition, we are honoured to entrust our bottles to the distinctive artistic language of Gülsün Karamustafa.
